Aftercare
Looking after your new tattoo
Good healing keeps the blue clean and bright. Follow this for the first 2–4 weeks, and any extra instructions you got on the day.
The first day
- Keep the wrap on for as long as you were told on the day, then remove it with clean hands.
- Wash gently with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel — don't rub.
Weeks 1–2
- Wash 2–3 times a day the same way.
- After washing, apply a thin layer of unscented aftercare balm or lotion. Thin is enough — too much keeps it wet.
- It will flake and itch. Don't pick, peel or scratch; let the flakes come off on their own.
- Wear loose, clean clothes over it and avoid friction on that area.
Until it's fully healed (about 2–4 weeks)
- No baths, swimming pools, the sea, saunas or hot tubs. Short showers are fine.
- Keep it out of direct sun. Once healed, use sunscreen on it — sun is what fades blue fastest.
- Go easy on gym sessions that stretch or rub the area for the first few days.
When to get it checked
Some redness and tenderness in the first days is normal. See a doctor if redness, heat or swelling keeps getting worse after 2–3 days, or if you notice pus, a bad smell, red streaks or a fever.
